Bomo - A Troll Story
Chapter 3 - A strange Awakening
When Bomo woke up, something felt very wrong.
He yawned—and it sounded like a lion’s roar! He sat up—and his bed collapsed into pieces! He stood up—and bumped his head on the ceiling!
Bomo ran to a mirror and saw something impossible.
He wasn’t a man anymore.
He was a troll!
His skin was gray-green and thick. He had small horns on his head. His hands were huge, and his voice came out in growls and rumbles. When he tried to say, “What happened to me?” it sounded like “WHAT HAPPEN BOMO?”
The dragon’s magic had changed him!
Guards heard the noise and came running. But they didn’t see Sir Bomo the knight. They saw a monster in Bomo’s room!
“Stop!” Bomo tried to say. “It’s me! It’s Bomo!”
But it came out as roars and grunts. The guards attacked!
Bomo didn’t want to hurt them—these were his friends! He just pushed them gently aside and ran. He ran through the castle, with more and more guards chasing him.
Finally, he reached the courtyard. The gates were closed, but Bomo was strong now. He climbed right over them and jumped down on the other side!
He ran through the village (where people screamed and hid) and kept running until he reached the edge of the Long Wood—the great forest where magical creatures lived.
Behind him, he could hear horses. The knights were coming!
Bomo ran into the forest and found a big rock to hide behind. He stayed very quiet, very still, even though his heart was breaking.
He was a troll now. He could never go back to the castle. He could never marry Esperia. He would never see his friends again.
Bomo cried that night, hiding in the forest, more alone than he’d ever been.
